William "Bill" Pat Bowers

August 20, 1932 — June 28, 2021

William (Bill/DeeDa) Pat Bowers, 88, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, took his first breath in Heaven on Monday, June 28, 2021. He was born August 20, 1932, in Newberry County, SC, to his parents Samuel Pat Bowers and Mildred Boozer Bowers both of Clinton, SC. They predeceased him as did his wife Patsy Whitmire Bowers of Hartsville, SC. His grandson Jeffrey Taylor Stephens of Macon, GA, predeceased him as well. He leaves behind his daughter Susan Bowers of Hilton Head; granddaughters Whitney Stephens of HHI and Sterling (Ethan) Gudger of Ellijay, GA; a great-granddaughter Hailey Stephens of Macon, GA; and his constant companion Eve, the family Yorkie.

Bill graduated from Presbyterian College and received his master’s degree from Appalachian State University. Bill was a true servant. He served in the US Army. He served the students of Darlington County Schools (SC) as an educator and administrator. He served his church, First Presbyterian Church of Hartsville, SC, as a Sunday School Teacher and Elder. Upon moving to Hilton Head, he assisted Susan in leading a small Bible Study Group at Central Church.

Later in life, he collected golf balls, and he loved to cook and help prep for family meals. Susan always told him he was the best sous chef on the Island! He loved watching The Virginian, The Waltons, America’s Got Talent, and binging episodes on NetFlix. He adored his family and his friends. Cracking jokes with his dry wit was his trademark. He was generous with his time and energy, always going above and beyond in any task he undertook. He was the epitome of a true Southern Gentleman. DeeDa, you will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
