William (Bill) Siereveld, 89, has passed peacefully, at Veterans Victory House, Walterboro, SC, early on the morning of Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
Born October 30, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late William and Helen Zwick Siereveld, Bill was preceded in death by his sister Marian (John) Murphy of Huntington, WV.
On February 26, 1966, now just days shy of 56 years, Bill married Mary Jane (Weinewuth Kreutzer) Siereveld, who survives. As he once reminisced on seeing her for the very first time, "She was standing in the room, she was talking with others, she was smiling, and she was wearing a pretty dress with a high-neck collar. She looked really nice in that dress". Bill was smitten by a very special Lady.
On his wedding day back in 1966, Bill became more than a life-mate and husband to Mary Jane. He also became a step-father to Mary Jane's five children, all under the age of fourteen. He accepted that responsibility, knowing, that in a few years there would be a successive string of eager teenagers, each of them impatiently waiting to be taught how to drive the family car.
Bill is survived by all of the step-children: Patricia (Larry Porter) Newberry, Cincinnati, OH; Joyce (David) Ming of Lawrenceburg, IN; Marie (Todd) Greer of Summerfield, FL; Thomas (Linda) Kreutzer of Bluffton, SC; and Stephen (Mary) Kreutzer of Fort Thomas, KY. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A 1950's veteran of the US Air Force; next a letter carrier with a full stint at the United States Postal service in Cincinnati, Ohio; and then a retiree in Florida; Bill lived a simple life, a good life. In later years, a move to South Carolina put him and Mary Jane closer to family.
He loved old cars and he loved working on them. Kaiser-Fraser cars were his favorite, owning always at least one. If you can imagine a guy wearing a ball cap, poking his head out from under an open car hood, and holding in his hand a tool or a shop rag - then you know Bill.
Bill also loved to sing. For over twenty five years, he and Mary Jane were members of 'The Fun Chorus', a choral group who sang 'old standards', and who entertained the residents of retirement homes and nursing homes. Good people do good things.
And Bill liked playing 'at the piano'. Perhaps however, the best thing to ever happen 'at the piano' was on one occasion, Bill sat on the piano bench and the cat joined him. And as an audience of one, with its tail hanging half-way to the floor, Fritz the cat watched and listened to Bill's performance. With a single photograph, wife Mary Jane captured completely that tender moment. Later, his sister Marian translated that photograph into a painting of Bill sitting peacefully with Fritz at the piano. May Bill now find Fritz and may they rest in peace together.
Interment after a private ceremony with family will be at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC, on Wednesday February 23, 2022.
