In Loving Memory of Winifred Cepeda Altman
December 10, 1943 – August 25, 2024
Winifred Cepeda Altman, affectionately known as "Winnie," was born on December 10, 1943, to Gloria Salas Cepeda Aguon and Pedro Cepeda Aguon in Chalan Pago, Guam. On August 25, 2024, at the age of 80, Winnie departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and countless memories that will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a shining testament to the enduring power of family, friendship, and unwavering faith.
Fifteen years ago, Winnie faced the profound loss of her beloved husband, Wallace Edwin Altman—the love of her life. Despite the heartache, she remained a beacon of strength and grace, embodying the true essence of resilience. Together they built and nurtured a large family of six children, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, family, and unconditional love—values that continue to guide their lives today.
Winnie’s love for her children was the kind that wrapped around you like a warm blanket, making you feel safe, cherished, and understood. She had a special way of knowing just what they needed, whether it was a comforting word, a piece of advice, or just a quiet presence beside them. Her devotion to her children was the foundation of the family, and it’s what kept her children strong through every challenge life threw their way. Even as adults, they knew they could always turn to her, and she’d be there with that gentle smile, ready to help, ready to love.
Standing at just 4’9", Winnie may have been adorably tiny, but her presence was anything but small. She was a powerhouse of wit, wisdom, and warmth, with a sharp mind and an even bigger heart. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone around her feel like the most important person in the room, always offering a kind word, a listening ear, or a piece of sage advice.
Winnie’s love for her dogs, Lola and Logan, was boundless. They were not just pets; they were her pride and joy, and she would do absolutely anything for them. Whether she was cooking up special chicken dinners, giving them the best blowouts, or simply showering them with love and treats, Lola and Logan were undoubtedly the luckiest pups in the world—and they knew it.
Winnie is survived by her children: Brandy Logan, Catherine Ogden, Richard Altman, James (Debbie) Peterson, James Altman, and Jeffrey Altman; her two brothers, Pete (Carol) Aguon Jr. and Paige Aguon; as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her love and legacy forward.
A celebration of Winnie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the MPB of The Great Swamp Baptist Church, 9009 Tarboro Road, Ridgeland, SC 29936, followed by a burial in the church cemetery. Family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable woman who meant so much to so many.
Winnie, you were our guiding light, our joy, and the heart of our family. Though you will forever be missed, your spirit will live on in the laughter, love, and memories you’ve left behind.
Rest peacefully, dear Winnie. You are now where you belong, in the arms of your beloved Wallace, watching over us with that beautiful smile we all adored.
