BLUFFTON, SC — Christenson, Angela L (“Angel”)

Angela (Angel) L. Christenson passed away on September 12, 2023, with her beloved family members and friends at her side.  She was born to Emil and Eleanor Weigel on June 4, 1944, in Staten Island, NY. She graduated from Norte Dame Academy High School (Miami, FL) in 1962, where she was a stellar student and then went on to graduate from Marymount College in 1966 with a degree in education.

When she first graduated, she worked as a home economics teacher until she began working with her husband as the business manager in their private dental practice in Albany, NY.  On April 1st, 1966, Angel married Harry Stephen (Steve) Christenson. He was the love of her life and together they have two children, Greg and Kira, who grew up in Delmar, NY and Voorheesville, NY. Throughout her life, Angel volunteered her time to many organizations, including serving in various positions on member committees at Albany Country Club and Belfair as well as at her children’s school events and at Saint Peter’s Hospital. 

After retiring in 2006, Angel and Steve permanently relocated to the Bluffton area where they had vacationed for years with their family and friends. Shortly thereafter they had their home built in Belfair, where Angel became an active member of the community. She enjoyed playing golf, going out to dinner and socializing with her numerous friends. Angel and Steve were also able to spend their retirement years traveling to many locations throughout the world creating cherished memories with those they knew and loved.

Angel  battled a long-term illness for the past three years with tremendous grace and poise.   The family wishes to thank the doctors, physician assistants and nurses at St. Joseph/Candler Hospital for their dedicated and excellent care of Angel.

Angel is survived by her son, Greg and his wife Eileen and their children William and Courtney of Boulder, CO; her daughter, Kira Nelson and her husband Ed and their children, John, Katie, Connor and Teddy of Wellesley, MA; her brother Werner Weigel and wife Beverly of Cooperstown, NY and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved to spend time with. We will miss and cherish her and keep her in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 16th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Bluffton, SC which will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Belfair Country Club.   In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Christian Brothers Academy of Albany, NY (https://cbaalbany.org/ give-now/) or to St Joseph/Candler Foundation (https://www.sjchs.org/foundations/donate/make-a-gift-now).
