Obituary

Barbara Marhoffer, 88, transitioned peacefully early morning June 1st, 2022 in Bluffton, SC

Beloved Mother to 3, Grandmother to 6, and Great Grandmother to 1. Barb lead a full life that included career, faith and family.  She was born in New York City, NY to the late George Patrick Indelkof and Elizabeth Southmayd McWilliams Indelkof of Fairfield, CT on January 5th, 1934

Barb was a loving mother who enjoyed nature (Bird Watching & Audubon), animals, painting and instilling in her children the sense of right and decency.  Sometimes to properly instill that sense of right it was necessary to apply a smack of the wooden spoon.  She was so adept with her marksmanship that if it were an Olympic event she would have medaled, so say her children with a laugh.  Those fasthand eye skills also came in handy with her proficiency in Braille, Shorthand and Typing.  She loved spending time with friends to either play Bridge or discuss her recipe for her famous Sour Cream Meatballs.  She lived her life first in Connecticut, then the Detroit MI area, followed by the Chicago IL area and finally Hilton Head Island, SC where she had lived since 1980.  It was in Hilton Head to where she found her peace and place.  She loved her work as Administrative Assistant at South Island Public Service District on Hilton Head where she worked for 25+ years until her retirement.  She was active in her faith and church as a long-standing Episcopalian, since moving to Hilton Head a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.   It is here that some of her ashes will be laid.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Martin of McHenry, IL, Cindy Duggan (Joseph) of Bluffton, SC as well as her son, Doug Marhoffer (Amy) of Los Angeles, CA.  Sister, Mabel Gerquest. Also, Nancy’s children, Buck Martin and Lexi Godzicki (Jason), Cindy’s children, Kellen Duggan & Jolie Duggan, Doug’s children, Karen Marhoffer & Emily Marhoffer and Great Grandchild Jaxson Godzicki as well as Nieces and Nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Saul’s Funeral Home on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 11AM in Bluffton, SC.  A private ceremony will also take place at All Saints Episcopal Church Gardens on Hilton Head Island, SC.

In lieu of flowers, Barb asks you make a donation to the Hilton Head Humane Society; PO Box 21790; Hilton Head Island, SC 29925.
