Birdie Lou Powell, 79, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on May 3, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Savannah, GA after a long illness.
Birdie is survived by her only daughter Monique DeCicco-Jones, her children Anthony DeCicco, Dominique DeCicco, Angelina DeCicco-Jones, and Jacqueline DeCicco-Jones and one great grandchild Aliyah Davis.
Birdie was one of six siblings born to the late Lottie Burrison Powell, and among five born in the union of Lottie Burrison Powell to Pearley Powell. She is predeceased by Pearlie Mae Powell. Samuel Burrison, Shirley Powell, Catherine Powell, Lloyd Powell have all survived Birdie as well as countless nieces and nephews.
Birdie was an elementary and special education schoolteacher earning two Baccalaureate degrees from Jersey City State College. She was also a realtor in New Jersey for Coldwell Realty. She was also a life member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. Birdie enjoyed traveling the world, purchasing and selling properties, and spending time with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Birdie is known for her feistiness and “go-getter” personality. She was an overachiever who was great at financing and tripling cents to dollars. She was humorous, kind, witty, and loved to talk. She died surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren.
