Obituary

Bobby L. Mendenhall, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on May 4, 2023. He was born October 23, 1947 in Great Falls, SC to Frank Edward and Evelyn Brakefield Mendenhall. He was the youngest of four brothers, and was named after his brother Robert W. Mendenhall who had served and died in WWII in 1945.

He had a thirty-five year career as a golf professional. In 1971, he moved to Hilton Head Island and was one of the first assistant pros at Harbor Town Golf Links, where he met his wife, Stephanie. He went on to participate in the establishment of Dolphin Head Golf Club, Oyster Reef Golf Club, and Hilton Head National.

Bobby was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed and treasured the waters and woods of the Lowcountry.  He is survived by his wife Stephanie, daughter Brooke, son-in-law John Anderson, and sister-in-law Cynthia Willis, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank Edward Jr., Marion, and Robert Mendenhall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Coastal Conservation Association of South Carolina (CCA), Calhoun Station, or Hilton Head Humane Association.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 12 at 2:00pm at the Church of the Cross, Calhoun St., Bluffton, SC with a reception to follow. The church will be most easily accessed at that time via Water St. from Burnt Church Road and Bridge St.
