Bobby Jerome Tillman

Bobby Jerome Tillman, 76, passed over on May 11, 2021, at Agape Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born on August 2, 1944 in Charleston, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Riley Tillman and Wade Sheppard Tillman; his siblings, Jack Walker, Alice Long, Henry Tillman, Louise Duncan, Wade Tillman and first wife, Eleanor Purdy Tillman.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Webb Tillman; a daughter, Shellie Marie Rowell (Jen); step-children, Natasha Jenine Bowers, Chauncey Klugh Gregory (Sherri), Alice Gray Gregory, and Richard Evans Richards Gregory; a sister, Patricia Tillman; brothers, Carl Tillman and Wilbur Tillman (Diane), many nieces and nephews, three step grand-children, Marshall Gregory, Ellen Gray Gregory (Taylor) and Jasper Purdy.  Ralph, Chris and George were very dear to him.

Bobby was a member of the Maye River Baptist Church. He served in the 5^th and 7^th CAV, airmobile, in Vietnam in 1968-1969, receiving three bronze stars for his meritorious service. He was a home builder since 1969. He owned and operated Contemporary Builders in Beaufort, SC and served a few years as President of the Home Builders Association in Beaufort and Jasper Counties. He was loved and respected as a builder because he valued honesty above all else.

He enjoyed the river, which consisted of shrimping, fishing, crabbing and pulling anyone who dared to tube or ski behind his boat. He enjoyed dancing the Carolina Shag, hosting lowcountry boils at his home with friends and family and drinking coffee with his friends at the Huddle House. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am prior to the service at 11:00 am on Saturday,  May 15, 2021 at the Maye River Baptist Church, Bluffton, SC with burial to follow at Ridgeland Cemetery, Ridgeland, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital and Maye River Baptist Church.
