Brett Smith Badgett died on December 30, 2022. Brett was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 10, 1958 to Joseph F. Badgett and Peggy Badgett. He grew up with his two sisters in Beaufort, South Carolina and has many dear friends there. In 1978 he met Catherine Taylor. They have been partners in life and best friends ever since. They were married in 1989.
Brett began his working life with his Dad at Utilities Construction Company. He later worked for many years with South Carolina Electric and Gas before pursuing his dream of owning a feed store, Jasper Feed and Seed. His lifelong love of planting and growing things, which he had always shared with his wife and family, moved him in that direction. He worked hard and always had time to talk with his customers who shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors. He had two beloved children, Callie and Caleb, who joined him in working at the feed store. He also was a mentor to many young people who worked with him over the years. He was a man of few words, but all who came in contact with him were touched by his steady, gentle spirit. He was never happier than when he was in his garden and he loved to fish. He looked forward to going for coffee with his best friend, Tommy. Brett was a wonderful father and husband and he will greatly be missed. He had no enemies, only friends. His dog, Susie touched his heart and she went to work with him every day.
Brett was predeceased by his parents Joe and Peggy Badgett. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy and their two children, Callie Badgett (Conner) and Caleb Badgett (Parker). He is also survived by his sisters Evelyn Owens (Randy) and Francis Haddox (Steve), Sister in Law Jeanie Brown (Larry) and many special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of Brett’s life will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. on the grounds of Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St. in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
The family would ask that in lieu of flowers you consider a donation to the Port Royal Sound Foundation or to the local animal shelter or animal welfare organization of your choice.
