Brian Thomas Smith, 82 years young of Bluffton SC, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 25th, 2021, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA, the result of a stroke.
Brian was above all a devoted loving husband and best friend to his beloved wife of 51 years Teresa Smith, the love of his life.
In addition to his wife, Brian is survived by his daughter Teresita Hamilton, son-in-law Geoff Hamilton and their children, Elena, Liliana and Sophia in Barrington, RI; daughter Alicia Smith, son-in-law Nico Graf and their child Mateo in Zurich, Switzerland; son Brian Smith, daughter-in-law Beth Smith in Washington, DC; and son Kevin Smith, daughter-in-law Laura Kent-Monning and their children Riley, Sullivan and Shaye in Oakland, CA. Brian is also survived by his sisters Anne Paiva Parada and Elizabeth Sepassi, sister-in-law Virginia Smith, and predeceased by his brothers Jack, Michael and Patrick Smith. Brian cherished his title of uncle, and he loved his many nieces and nephews dearly.
Brian was born on April 18, 1939, in the Bronx, New York City, to parents Elizabeth and John Smith. Brian was a baseball player in his youth and a life-long Yankee fan, a fact well known to his four children and seven grandchildren. (He taught all the grandkids, ‘Let’s go Yankees’.) Brian had an adventurer’s spirit, flying Cessna’s as a young man, and with a life-long fondness for travel. Brian’s most defining trait was kindness, followed closely by honesty, intelligence, and humor. Brian loved to laugh and joke, and he loved to share a red wine and a sunset. A devoted Catholic, he lived his life in the service of his family and extended family, a shining example of faith in action. We, his family and the friends he made over a lifetime, carry with us his spirit and his love, a boundless gift.
