C. Hannan Obituary

C. Harold Hannan was born in Montreal, Canada, on May 29, 1929, the son of Ralph and Kathleen Hannan, the eldest of three boys.  He spent his formative years in Montreal and In Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He graduated from Yale University with a degree in mechanical engineering.  It was in New Haven, Connecticut where he met his wife, Eleanor Geary Hannan.  He began he career in New Britain, Connecticut, with the Fafnir Corporation.  After several years he and his young family moved to Keene, NH lured by a new research lab at MPB Corporation. In the early 1970's he was recruited to run a division of MPB located in the Netherlands where he and his family resided for four years, eventually settling in Branford , Connecticut, where he ran yet another division.  He enjoyed a long and varied career, retiring from Kodak Corporation spending several years in Pittsford, NY.  He loved to tell stories about working on ball bearings for dentists drills to make them go faster thus less pain for the patient.  He also worked on the Hubbel telescope at Kodak.  After several years at Kodak and traveling the United States to find the perfect spot to retire, he and Ellie chose to settle in Moss Creek in 1995.

Harry served in a leadership capacity in many civic and local organizations in almost every location where they resided.  At various times he chaired the local Lions Club, the United Way Campaign, the local school board, the Keene Country Club and served 11 years on the Architectural Review Board of Moss Creek.  He had a life-long love of music, including barbershop vocal harmony.  But his favorite love was singing in the Church choirs wherever he lived.  He spent over 22 years singing with the St Gregory the Great Choir and cantored for several years.  in l997 his beloved Ellie passed away.  Then in 2000 he married Mary Ellen Kilpatrick and they lived a loving and happy life for almost 23 years.  They both loved to travel and visited many countries throughout their marriage.  He also enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and had a passion for chocolate candy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Kathleen Hannan, brothers John and Ben and wife Ellie.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, daughter Ellen Hannan and son-in-law Kevin Monahan and several
nephews and nieces.  His daughter Ellen remembers him as the "winningest" Dad and cherished by all.
He lived a good, long life and it mattered.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great in Bluffton on Wednesday, March 15th at 10:30 am.  A
reception will follow at the Parish Life Center following the burial in the Resurrection Garden.
