Catherine "Joan" Bryce

Catherine (Joan) Bryce passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Sprenger Healthcare, Bluffton SC at the age of 91.  She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Gregory the Great. 

Known to all as Joanie, she was born in Englewood NJ and attended Dwight Morrow High School.  She met and married the love of her life, our dad Vincent Bryce, in Bergenfield NJ where he was a police officer.  They were married 60 years until his passing in 2011.  Together they raised 5 children in Bergenfield and Toms River NJ.  They also lived for a time in Doylestown PA and Tannersville PA before moving to Hilton Head.  Mom was the kindest, funniest and most caring person you could ever hope to meet.  She cared for everyone-her family, friends and even strangers.  She would bake her cranberry orange bread for everyone whether you were changing the oil in her car in the service department or the office staff at the dentist.  After dad passed, mom volunteered at NHC nursing facility for 7 years as a helper to the activities' director.  She loved the residents,  and they loved her. She called them her "little babies".  Their families loved her also. She was such a joy to be with for her wicked sense of humor and a comfort to be with for endless sense of compassion.  Mom was a bottomless well of optimism.

We know she has gone home to be with her beloved Vinny.  Mom is survived by 4 children, Michael Bryce(Lynn), Catherine Orlando(Vinny), Barbara Johnson(Michael), and Vincent Jr,(Debbie).  She was sadly predeceased by her daughter Patricia Hilsdorf in 2013.  Mom had 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
