Charles August Carlsson

Charles August Carlsson, 89, passed away March 3, 2021 at Coastal Carolina Hospital surrounded by family.  Chuck was born on June 24, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois.  Survived by his loving wife, Aileen (Stooke) of 44 years. Also survived by children: Kathy (Don) Knowles, Mark (Paula), Keith (Chantel), Michael (Shannon) MacDonell, 14 grandchildren Aaron, Andrea, Anna, Erica, Adam, Rachael, Ashley, Lakin, Andrew, Gabrielle, Greta, Noah, Riley, Ryan and several great grandchildren, brother-in-law Richard (Maureen) Stooke.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice (Mooney), sister Alida Manthei, children, Charles and Paul, sister-in-law Judith Fillmore and brother-in-law Robert Fillmore.

He graduated from Rockford East High School and attended Rockford College 1954 and University of Minnesota 1958.  He was safety director at Barber Colman, Rockford, Illinois and retired after 25 years.  In 1975 he became Safety Director for Carrier Corporation, Syracuse, New York.  In 1990, he became Safety Director for the Association for Manufacturing Technology in McLean, Virginia and retired in 1999.  He was a member of ASSE (American Society of Safety Engineers) and the National Safety Council.

In the summer Chuck loved boating on the Finger Lakes of New York and the Great Lakes, cross country and downhill skiing in the winter.  After retiring to Bluffton he enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date when family and friends can safely come together.
