Charles Edgar Dobler

Charles E. Dobler (Chuck), age 63,  passed away at his home in Bluffton, SC on  March 31, 2020 following complications from multiple system atrophy.   This is a rare neurodegenerative disease, and it was Chuck’s wish that his brain be procured for further research through the Brain Bank at MUSC in hope of finding a cure for this devasting disease.

Chuck was born in Flint, MI on April 28, 1956, graduated from High School in East Lansing, MI, and then headed East for college. He graduated from Yale in 1979 with a BS in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry and continued on at Harvard in a Master’s program in Immunology.  He swam for Yale and continued to maintain an inspirational level of fitness throughout his life.  He had a true passion for waterskiing and later golf.   Chuck was an admired colleague and mentor, first at Corning Glass for 20 years, where he ended his career as Vice President/General Manager of Corning Europe, having lived in the Netherlands for 2 years.  He then went on to Thermofisher Scientific for 18 years, where he was Vice President of Global Category & Portfolio Management. His career took him all over the world; he was a “Million Miler” and spent many hours at his favorite restaurant, The Delta Sky Club, by way of his much-coveted Diamond status.

Although his career held a high degree of importance in his life, it was his family that he was most devoted and proud of; his three daughters truly meant the world to him.  He was a loving and much devoted son to parents, Ionne (Evans) and Wally, sister Karen, father to Laura (Pat Morello), Katie (Ryan McClear) and Kelly (Scott Pavek), and the best partner in life one could ask for to his wife, Liz (Jaenike) Dobler. He is survived by all those noted above.

Chuck was such a self-effacing man who truly lived his life by the adage “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all.”  He was a beautiful human being who will be greatly missed by many.
