Charles Ernest "C.E." Malphrus

Charles Ernest “C.E.” Malphrus, 84, of Okatie, SC, husband of Cheryle Lowther Malphrus, passed away on December 10, 2020 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. C.E. was born on August 17, 1936 in Ridgeland, SC to the late Charles E. Malphrus and Rebecca Langford Malphrus. C.E. was a 1954 graduate of Ridgeland High School (Tigers) and a 1959 graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. C.E. worked for the Federal Aviation Agency and the US Army Corps of Engineers for a total of 42 years before retiring. After retirement, he was Project Engineer for the construction of the Ridgeland Correctional Institution, and was then hired as head of maintenance for R.C.I. C.E. was a member of the SC National Guard and also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ridgeland. He served as Branch President for the Hampton Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and he was also a counselor to several Bishops in the Ridgeland Ward. C.E. served as Scout Master for 20 years and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America for exceptional and dedicated service to the young men of the U.S.A.

C.E. is survived by his loving wife, married February 24, 1961 (59 years and 10 months !!!!), Cheryle L. Malphrus of Okatie, SC, one son, Darryl “Brandt” Malphrus (Tina) of Beaufort, SC, three daughters, Holly Malphrus (David Heape) of Ridgeland, SC, Carmen Malphrus of Ridgeland, SC, and Rebecca Sultan (Craig) of Fayetteville, GA; seven grandchildren, Hannah Hills (Robert), Max Sultan (Emery), Jack Sultan, Cheryle Anne Malphrus, Charli Malphrus Pace (Braely), Lily R. Malphrus, B.J. Malphrus, and one great-grandchild, Weldon Charles Hills. C.E. was preceded in death by his sister, Zenith M. Ingram.
