Clayton Charles Riegel

Clayton C. Riegel of Bluffton, SC passed away peacefully in his home on May 9, 2023, after bravely battling bone cancer.  Clayton is survived by his wife, Anita (Louise) nee Cioffi. He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey in 2017.  He is also survived by his children, Debbie Widman (Ray), Donna Gaffney, Andrew Riegel and stepson John Vessecchia (Teri), grandchildren Marc Durante (Jeannifer), Ryan Durante (Faina), Jack Widman (Lauren), and Sally Ann Widman.  Clay also had 5 great-grandchildren, Mallory Durante, Clayton Durante, Jaina Durante, Dillon Durante, and Archer Widman.

Clay was a master model railroader.  Trains were his passion, and he was a long-time member of the Patcong Valley Railroad Club in New Jersey until his move to Bluffton in 2005.  He continued to be in contact with the club and was active in building models until his recent passing.

Clay was a kind and gentle man, loved by all he encountered.  He was the first one to extend himself to offer assistance to anyone who needed his help.  He loved children and animals and coached Little League in his earlier years in New Jersey.

To honor Clay’s memory, donations to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by his family. 

A memorial service will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 351 Buckwalter Pkwy, Bluffton, SC 29910 at 1pm on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
