Daniel Williams, 68, passed away on Sept 18, 2021 at Coastal Carolina Hospital, Hardeeville, SC. His cause of death was the Covid-19 virus.
Dan was born on Sept 30, 1952 in Marquette, Michigan to Walter and Helen (Baragwanath) Williams. He graduated from Elk Rapids, MI high school in 1970, joined the Navy on Jan 4, 1972, where he served for 20 years retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer (HMC.)
Dan’s son, Nathan, preceded him in death on May 19, 2021. His parents, Walter and Helen Williams also preceded him in death.
Dan is survived by his wife, Kathryn Hatch, Bluffton, SC, and his step-son, Dennis Parker (Lauren), Capt USAF, Scott AFB, IL, grandson, Camden Parker, granddaughter, Madelyn Williams, and his siblings, Greg Williams (Camilla) from Traverse City, MI, Barbara Williams Cape (Chuck) from Lake Ann, MI, his twin brother, David Williams (Sheila) from Holland, MI, Robert Williams (Kathy) from West Milton, OH, and Susan Williams Darling (Andy) from Traverse City, MI.
Dan married Kathy Hatch in 2004 at the Annapolis, Maryland court house having reconnected after 34 years. Dan had always had a crush on Kathy in high school, but they had gone separate ways in life until Dan looked up Kathy in Maryland when he had taken a job on the East Coast. Dan loved to play golf and became “a part time official starter” at Moss Creek Hilton Head golf course after retiring and moving to Bluffton, SC. He also participated in several live theatre plays as well as various musical vocal groups.
His gregarious nature, sharing his encouragement and humor, allowed him to develop long term friendships easily. He will surely be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place at Sauls Funeral Home, Bluffton, SC. Separate “Celebrations of Life” will be held with friends in Bluffton, SC, Annapolis, MD and in Elk Rapids, MI at future dates.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Cape St. Claire Recreational Counsel, 1290 Bay Dale Dr, PMB 341, Arnold, MD 21012, Attn: Mike Sutphin, to help kids in need of youth football uniforms (mention in the memo “Dan Williams-football uniforms.”) Dan was proud of his involvement with and coaching the Cape St. Claire Cougars (feeder football teams of all ages) during the years his son Denny Parker was growing up and for many more years after Denny started playing on his Broadneck High School JV and Varsity football teams.
