David Ray Fleiner

David R Fleiner passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on July 3rd, 2021. He had been fighting cancer, but spent that time enjoying his family and friends.  He was born on July 11th, 1946 in Galion, Ohio to Martin and Juanita Fleiner, who will meet him in heaven.  

Dave graduated from Ohio State University and started his career at Georgia Pacific in 1971 in sales and advanced to Presidency of three divisions, retiring in 2013.  After retirement, he and his wife of 50 years, Sue (Aplas) resided in Bluffton, South Carolina. 

He had a great love of the outdoors, and you would often find him hunting and fishing at his farm in Georgia. He and his boys would spend countless hours together there, and would come back and regale us with numerous stories, whether the hunt was successful or not.  He also played golf around the world and enjoyed the challenge and comradery of the sport, and again sharing those stories.   

He was a caring, congenial and trusted friend and gentleman to all, and never lost his smile or sense of humor.  He was a devoted husband, father and Pops to his grandkids, who brought much joy in his life and a terrific role model for family and those who worked for him. He will be missed dearly and all the memories and stories will be treasured by family and friends. 

Dave was a proud father of Dustin (Caroline) and Derek (Laura) and his precious granddaughters Sydney Anne, Abigail, Avery and Celia.  He is also survived by his brother Bill (Brenda), sisters Brenda (Jim Tischer) and Linda (Scott Noble) and many wonderful nieces and nephews. 

A Celebration of Life will be on Friday, August 6th, at 2:00 PM at Saul’s Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC.  Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to the charity of your choice.  At his request, Dave wanted those attending to wear casual clothing and bright colors, as we all know that was his outlook on life.
