Dean T. Koukos, D.O., 75 of Bluffton, SC died Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on August 10, 1948. He was the son of the late Theodore and Helen Koukos.
He is survived by his wife Dale Koukos of Bluffton, SC, one son, Chris (Carly) Koukos of Phoenixville, PA, step-daughters Lauren Belvedere of Lancaster,PA, and Brittany Berliere of Phoenix, AZ and step-son Brett Belvedere of Wayne, PA; one grandson, Luke Koukos and one step-grandson, Harrison Berliere.
Dean graduated from Upper Darby High School in Darby, PA in 1966. He graduated from Saint Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, PA in 1970 and then received his D.O. degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974. He attended his internship and General Surgical Residency at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital. He began his medical career as Assistant Director at the Emergency Department at Washington Memorial Hospital in Turnersville, New Jersey and went on to become Director of the Emergency Department at Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli, PA. He owned and operated a private practice, Occupational, Industrial and Family Medicine, in West Chester, PA from 1987-2005. He and his wife then moved to Bluffton, SC and he began practicing at Barnwell Family Medicine where he worked from 2005 until December 22, 2023. While in Barnwell, he served as Chief of Staff at Barnwell County Hospital. He was a career long member of the American Osteopathic Association and also a member of the South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society where he even held the highest title of President from 2008-2009.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 pm until the hour of the service at 3:00 pm at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton with burial to follow at Maye River Cemetery, Bluffton.
