Anna Deborah (Debbie) Gooding Pinckney, widow of deSaussure Edwards Pinckney, Jr., passed away after a long battle with cancer on August 23, 2020. Debbie was born on August 23, 1933 to the late Harry Caldwell and Osie Tuten Gooding in Jasper County, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Ridgeland High School in 1951. Debbie was employed by several entities of Jasper County including the Clemson Extension Service, Farmers Home Extension Services and the Jasper County Assessor’s Office, in which she worked over 20 years and soon became her second family.
Debbie was a founding member of The Aline T. McTeer Chapter of the Daughters of the King at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and also The Jean McTeer Thomas Daughters of the King at The Episcopal Church in Okatie. She was also a founding member at The Episcopal Church in Okatie in 2013 of which she is a member. She was a devoted Christian who served many roles at her church. She was a member of the Jasper County, Hampton County and South Carolina Historical Society.
She is survived by daughters, Eve Caldwell Pinckney (Leslie Whitener) and Ann Niver Pinckney Webster (Allen) of Okatie (Chechessee), South Carolina. Two granddaughters, Emily Ann Webster Freeman (Dean) of Columbia, South Carolina and Jessie Pinckney Webster of Okatie (Chechessee), South Carolina. She is also survived by one sister, Josephine Gooding Boyles, one brother in law, William P. Moser both of Ridgeland, SC, two sisters in law, Judy Pinckney Altman of Okatie (Chechessee), South Carolina, Mary Pinckney Chancy of Allendale, South Carolina and JoAnn Pinckney of Bluffton, South Carolina. Debbie was preceded in death by a sister Marjorie (Punkin) Carroll Moser, brothers Ronald Carl Gibson and Harry Caldwell Gooding, II. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Debbie cherished her time with her many relatives and friends, especially Ann Cuthbert Pinckney Daniel, Sonja and Tom McTeer, Linda Tuten Mears, Jeanette Crosby, Randy and Dayle Blackmon, Lyn Boyles and Ginger Moser Stoner, her entire church family and her co-workers in the Jasper County Assessor’s Office.
A private service will be held at the Episcopal Church in Okatie for family and church members at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, and an open service with visitation beginning one hour prior to burial at the Grahamville Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 3:00 pm. The graveside service will be live streamed.
Memorials may be made to the Amedysis Foundation or The Episcopal Church in Okatie Building Fund.
