Dennis E. Jackson passed away on August 16, 2023, in Bluffton, South Carolina. Born on August 12, 1954, in Staten Island to Edward and Veronica Jackson.
One of four siblings (Michael, Barbara, Wendy pre-deceased), he graduated from Tottenville High School on Staten Island where he was an intricate part of the 1973 City Championship baseball team and was also drafted by the New York Mets organization. Renowned as one of the “most-feared” competitors, where he continued to dominate the softball community from the mid 70’s to late 80’s notably achieving multiple National Titles during his time.
His avid love for sports continued well into his final days as he was a Mets and Giants fan and loved a good final round of golf on Sundays.
He spent 35 years on the Staten Island Railway and continued to umpire in many of the existing softball leagues as well. Upon retiring, he took his many talents to Bluffton, South Carolina where his legendary athletic ability led him to his first 300 game in bowling as well as 3 hole in ones on the golf course and continued playing for the Sun City recreational and travel-based softball teams, winning more championships during that time. When his time of playing was complete, he continued to umpire in order stay active in the softball league.
Dennis is survived by his wife Pattie, sons Sean and Ryan (Marcia Jackson), his step-children Keith (ToniAnne) and Christine (Chris) and three grandsons (JR, Anthony, Dominick), As he is loved and missed by all, his “legend” will live on.
