Dennis Frank Westphal passed away on January 16, 2023 at the age of 86 in his new hometown of Bluffton, South Carolina. He battled serious medical issues in recent years but showed fortitude in facing life’s challenges with humor and positivity.
He was the proud member of the US Marine Corps, worked in Public Relations for Clark & Co in Boston, was a member of the Boston Athletics Association, Elite host for the John Hancock’s Boston Marathon, Director of the Freedom Trail Road race and part of the finish line announcing team for the London Marathon for many years.
The running world provided Dennis with the opportunity to follow his lifelong goal of helping people and making them happy. He was a lover of all people (especially women) and developed enduring friendships around the world. There was a special place in his heart for dogs and his favorite Jack Russell. His quick Irish wit embellished many a story. His forthright opinion also was instantly verbalize, whether solicited or not.
He is survived by his wife, Monica, mother-in-law Audrey, his brother-in-law Everard and wife Sharon, South African Mons Family, Peter, Kinnie, Garnet, Mario and Westphal nieces and nephews, Hillary, Collette, Valerie, Susan, Walter, Gary and Dennis.
