Donald Porcher Pinckney, age 88, passed away at his home on December 31, 2022 surrounded by his beloved family.
Donnie was born in Beaufort County on March 31, 1934 to the late William and Mae Rivers Pinckney. He served eight years in the United States Coast Guard and his proudest 37 years were spent as Captain with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. During this time, Donnie was instrumental in teaching the younger generation his philosophy by saying to them – GET HOOKED ON FISHING, NOT ON DRUGS. He was a great fisherman, shrimper and overall teacher of the South Carolina low country’s nature and friend to all.
Donnie is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Burnette Pinckney; his children, Clay Pinckney, Dorothy P. Breden (Patrick), Tripp Daley (Faye), Cynthia P. Gray, Wilbur Daley (Debra), Adlena (Denise) Pinckney; grandchildren, Christopher, Guy, Alex, Heather, Claire, Beverley, Clay, Brandy, Michael, Cathryn, Ashleigh, Rebecca, Lexi, Lyndsey, Gene, Timothy and Brittany; 21 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Donnie was predeceased by his first wife, Beverley H. Pinckney; his daughter, Teresa P. Vest; grandson, Adam Pinckney and son in law, Timothy Gray.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 6:30 pm Rosary on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Saint Gregory The Great Catholic Church, 31 Saint Gregory Drive, Bluffton with burial to follow in the Pinckney Family Cemetery, Pinckney Colony Road, Bluffton.
