Dorothy Cope Dean

Dorothy Cope Dean, 89, of Grays, SC passed away at her home on Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Dorothy was born on February 2, 1929 in Grays, SC to the late Riley Cope and Ollie Freeman Cope. Dorothy was a homemaker, longtime employee of Holiday Wear Manufacturing Company, and a member of Pine Level Baptist Church. She had many hobbies that she enjoyed including crafts, sewing, and cooking for her family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Foreman Malphrus and Vincent Dean; two daughters, Pam Etheridge and Judy Mitchum; three brothers, Dink Cope, Preacher Cope, and Louis Cope; one sister, Beatrice Yancey; and two grandchildren, Eddie Tuten and Tina Malphrus. Dorothy is survived by one son, Ralph Smith of Grays, SC; two daughters, Joyce Burnette of Grays, SC and Myra Malphrus (Freddie) of Ridgeland, SC; ten grandchildren, Troy Smoak (Mary), Kevin Smoak, Barry Smoak (Lisa), Robert Etheridge (Elizabeth), Ann Tuten, April Smith (Timmy), Bobby Malphrus (Cindy), Sherry Reynolds (Keith), Chris Smith (Ashleigh), and Heather DuPont (Roy); and nineteen great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Pine Level Baptist Church, 2009 Pine Level Church Rd, Grays, SC with burial in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Level Baptist Church or Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
