On May 3, 2023, Dorothy Lorine Nettles passed away peacefully at the age of 95. Miss Dot, as she was affectionately known, was born on July 1, 1927 in Saluda county, near the town of Leesville, SC. She was the daughter of Leonard Murray and Juliette Fulmer Hare and was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church for nearly 70 years. She loved her church and all of its related activities.
When her children were young, it was normal for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. Dorothy was an exceptional wife and mother, selflessly caring for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help and regularly brought meals to the homes of the sick and needy.
Her honesty, feistiness, loyalty, and caring nature will be missed by all who knew her.
Miss Dot is predeceased by her husband, Aubrey Nettles, 1 brother, James Hare, 1 sister, Eleanor Drafts, 1 daughter, Wanda Joy Nettles, 1 surrogate son, Farron Nettles, and 1 great grandchild, David Kubnick. She is survived by 1 son, Ronnie Nettles(Ann), 1 daughter, Monica Nettles, and 1 surrogate daughter, Lander Nettles. She is also survived by 2 granddaughters, McCall Gogol(Nick), McKenzee Kubnick(Jacob), and 7 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, May 6, at Great Swamp Baptist Church, with visitation prior to the service, beginning at 2 pm. Internment will follow the service at the Great Swamp cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send all donations to: Great Swamp Baptist Church, 9009 Tarboro Rd, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
