Duane G. Hutson, of Pembrooke Pines, Fl passed away peacefully, November 7, 2021, with his family by his side.
Duane was born in Hardeeville, SC, on October 23, 1931. He was the youngest of three boys. Duane attended medical school at the University of South Carolina. After medical school Duane entered the Navy where he spent the next two years assigned to a squadron of destroyers. Following the Navy stent, and a year working at the Miners Hospital in Kentucky, Duane and his family moved to Miami in 1963 to complete his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He became a founding member of the surgical department and was program director for the General Surgery Core Residency for 25 years. In 2016, Duane had the privilege of having an endowed Chair named after him in Surgical Education and was also honored with the Duane G. Hutson Lifetime Achievement in education Award which is given at graduation each year.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Duane. He loved his hometown where he spent amazing adventures hunting and fishing with his lifelong friends. But his greatest catch was his wife Olivia the love of his life. During his tenure at Jackson, he was always Dr. Hutson but to his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren he was Papy.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents Harry Simon and Lorna McTeer Hutson, his two brothers, Harry S. (JuJu) and Dona C. (DC). He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Olivia Carter Hutson, one daughter Melinda H. Allen (Randy), two sons, Duane G Hutson Jr. (Bubba) and Albert G. Hutson (Gregg); two grandchildren, Lindsey A. Hollar (Robert) and Dominque Hutson (Kaleigh) four great grandchildren, Carter Rae, Hutson, Kierra and Dax and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday November 13th (9:30am) at Purrysburg Cemetery, Hardeeville.
