Eberhard Otto Arndt, 83, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on June 8th.
Eberhard was born on December 1st, 1938 to Curt and Emilie Arndt in Hamburg, Germany. In 1962, he immigrated to the US and lived in Plainfield, NJ.
After arriving in the US, “Ed” landed his first job as a machinist for Thul in Plainfield, NJ, kicking off a 41-year career as a tool and die maker.
In 1964, he met Pearl (Hoecke), they wed in 1966, and made a home in Hillsborough, NJ, where they lived for 38 years. They had two sons, Christopher and Thomas. At home, Ed was a “Mr. Fix-It,” always working on home improvement projects, such as replacing the roof and building a garage and screened-in porch for their home on Hammler Road.
Ed retired from TA Instruments in 2003, and in 2005 Ed and Pearl moved to Bluffton, SC where he spent his time traveling, visiting historic sites and museums, and reading. His work on airplane and submarine parts launched a life-long fascination with military vehicles. He was an avid woodworker creating beautifully crafted outdoor furniture and cabinetry.
Eberhard is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; his brother, Jurgen (Charlotte); his two sons, Christopher (Julie), and Thomas (Carolyn); and his four grandchildren, Gabrielle, Matthew, Andrew, and Connor.
No memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.
