Edward "Eddie" Lee Matthews

Edward (Eddie) Lee Matthews, 69 of Okatie, SC, passed away on May 25, 2021 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, SC

Visitation will be held at 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 with funeral service immediately following at Community Bible Church, 638 Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort SC 29906.  A private burial will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Sauls Funeral Home.

Eddie was born in Camp Lejeune, NC to Eugene R. and Ann C. Matthews on August 13, 1951. He graduated from Bluffton High School at Bluffton, SC in 1969. He married Brenda Matthews on May 9, 1998 in Okatie, SC. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1975 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. His service to his country was one of his most proud accomplishments. He was an active member and choir member of Community Bible Church where he began attending in 1995.

Eddie loved God and his saving faith in Jesus Christ made him an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had an undeniable quick wit, loved playing video games, reading, and most of all fishing. He lived out the saying, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.”

Eddie is survived by his wife, Brenda, his daughter, Brittany (James) Bevan and stepson, Thomas (Samantha) Strozzo.  Grandchildren, Chris (Sarah) Bevan, Bryanna Hamilton, Brandon Bevan, Ariana Bevan, Isabella Bevan, and Kane Strozzo.
