Eugene Breininger

Eugene Breininger, a resident of Eagle’s Pointe, went home to the Lord on October 6, 2021 after a brief illness.  He was born on March 11, 1929, to H. Jacob and Ottilie Breininger in Brooklyn, New York.

Eugene was a person with special needs having been brain-damaged at the age of four due to a mastoid infection.  He had a very sweet disposition and enjoyed being with his family and friends.

He loved going on trips with his brother James and sister-in-law Terri, going to Barbados, the Cayman Islands and most especially to Disney World.  He went on many cruises both with his family and with Programs for Exceptional People. Eugene enjoyed taking pictures and has albums filled with photos of himself and all the places he visited.

He was a member of Programs for Exceptional People (PEP) for 19 years.  He had many friends there and he enjoyed all that the program had to offer.  He participated in Dance Showcases with Sequins Dance Studio and loved participating in the annual Fishing with Friends event run by Captain Fuzzy.

He is survived by his brother James and sister-in-law Terri of Eagle’s Pointe, who were his caregivers for the last 40 years. 

The family wishes to thank all those who helped to make Eugene’s life a fulfilling one, especially the staff and volunteers at PEP and many friends both near and far.

The family especially would like to thank Drs Carl Derrick and Robert Burnaugh for the care they provided over the years.

There will be a funeral mass at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Bluffton, SC at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 20, 2021, followed by inurnment at the Resurrection Garden behind the church.
