Fernand Edouard Morissette

October 13, 1936 — October 14, 2019

Born in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada and passed at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, South Carolina, USA.

Fernand is survived by his loving wife Erma, a daughter Christine of Montreal and a brother Robert and sister-in-law Sylvia of Montreal.  Also survived by sister Marielle Morissette in Quebec City, Quebec, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and his extended family.

Father is Pierre Morissette and Mother is Rose-Aime Boucher Morissette.  Fernand moved with his parents as a child to Montreal.  And graduated from Polytechnique Montreal with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  Fernand was the President of the Society of Automotive Engineers.  He worked for many years as an electrical engineer.  Fernand was involved with the designing of the street cars in Montreal.  He joined the Canadian Government as a Trade Commissioner.

He spent three years in Athens, Greece as the Canadian Trade Commissioner.  Then Fernand moved back to Ottawa and New Brunswick before retiring in 1993.  When Fernand moved to Brunswick he was Assistant Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Energy.  He purchased a 30’ boat and studied Marine navigation and taught marine navigation classes at the Ottawa Power and Sail Squadron and was a member.  He was active in boating in the St Lawrence River.

Fernand sold his boat when he incurred back problems and could not keep the boat to his satisfaction.  He bought a house in Port St Lucia, Florida and spent winters in Florida.

Fernand met his present wife, Erma in 2005 on a Zuiderdam cruise in the Caribbean. Fernand and Erma have been happily married for 14 years.  They loved to go on cruises and took many together.  He was a gentleman and very generous person and had a good sense of humor, he liked to entertain grandly.  Played tennis for many years and enjoyed swimming.  He really enjoyed cars and owned several very nice sports cars.  Enjoyed Jaguars and Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs, Lincolns, Lexus, etc.  Fernand earned his United States citizenship August 20, 2012.

Fernand will be missed.

Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 28, 2019 at St. Gregory Catholic Church at 31 St. Gregory Drive in Bluffton, SC 29909, 843-815-3100.  Mass at 10:30 am with a reception following the services at the Parish Life Center.
