Frieda Sigal Obituary

Frieda Sigal, née Wigden,  passed away on December 17, 2022 at 99 years of age. She was a smart, loving, generous, and family-oriented woman. She was a very practical thinker, an avid reader, quick-witted, and had a fund of knowledge about finance. She loved watching and playing the stock market. Born in the south Bronx, she raised herself up from poverty by sheer strength of will. She was a modest person who worked hard and demanded a great deal from herself. In 1945, she married her husband, Max Sigal, a jeweler who worked in New York City’s diamond district and they raised two daughters. She had been a legal secretary before and during World War II but became a bookkeeper and office manager for a real estate company where she worked for over thirty years.Eventually, most of the family on her husband’s side lived in apartments in the buildings she managed. She and her husband enjoyed traveling internationally and nationally. Upon retirement, they moved to south Florida, and relished their tropical surroundings. They shared an abiding delight in playing cards, golf, and bowling. Frieda was an enthusiastic and strong sportswoman, winning many trophies in ping pong, golf, and bowling during her life. After Max’s death in 1996, she continued to enjoy Florida life and kept up her interest in cards and sports; she was bowling and driving well into her 90s. Frieda had remarkable health, never having any serious illnesses or injuries. In 2019, she relocated to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Bluffton, South Carolina. Not long after her ninety-ninth birthday, she began a swift decline. She leaves two daughters, a grandson, and three great grandchildren.
