Gabrielle M. (Peirce) Medvedeff

Gabrielle “Gay” (Peirce) Medvedeff, 87, with her family present, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023. 

Gay was born on December 2, 1935, in Topsfield, Massachusetts. On May 24, 1958, she married Nicholas Medvedeff, marking the beginning of their 65 happy years together. Nick’s career in the Navy took the couple all over the country, from Maine to Hawaii and Guam. Eventually, they settled in Philadelphia, where Gay worked as a nurse for many years. In 2017, the couple moved to Sun City  in Bluffton, SC to be close to family. 

Gay was known for her kindness and generosity. Always giving, and finding someone in need. Some of her work included working on the crisis phone lines, in soup kitchens, and doing charitable sewing projects. Blankets and bags warmed the hearts of homeless, the handicapped and everyone around her. She made so many bags that she earned a nickname: The Old Bag Lady.” She was also an active part of the community at the Episcopal Church of Okatie. 

Gay is survived by her beloved husband Nicholas; children David (Joanne) and Tanya; son-in-law Charles Pestacchi; grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, Emily, and Christopher (Courtney); and great-grandchildren Cara and Chloe. Gay is preceded in death by her daughter Michelle Pestacchi and granddaughter Sophia Medvedeff.

A service to celebrate and honor Gay’s life will be held at The Episcopal Church in Okatie at 231 Hazzard Creek Rd. #1, Ridgeland, SC on Tuesday, November 21st at 11 a.m. All are welcome to join.
