Gabrielle Phyllis Cogen Testa, 82, widow of Stefano G. Testa, found peace Sunday, January 24, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Charlotte, NC.
Gabrielle was born in New York, NY on April 17, 1938. She grew up in Harrison, NY with her parents, the late Irving and Annette, and her two younger brothers, Charles and William. Gabrielle received her teaching degree in Spanish from the State University of New York in Albany and went on to teach high school Spanish for over 30 years, mostly at Watchung Hills Regional High School in New Jersey. She taught Spanish at the highest level, including Spanish literature. She was a favorite teacher to many of her students! Gabrielle was a lifelong learner and teacher, volunteering as a translator in the local hospital ER, teaching a Spanish class to interested adults and always reading.
In 1997, Gabrielle and Stefano retired to Sun City in Bluffton, SC where they enjoyed life to the fullest. They were both involved in the Sun City community and loved to cook and entertain friends at home. Gabrielle was active in the Synchronettes, the Choir and the Follies, among other groups. She was known for her style, quick wit, great sense of humor and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Gabrielle is survived by her son David, of Robbinsville NJ, and daughter Stephanie Buehler, of Charlotte NC. She is also survived by son-in-law Doug Buehler; daughter-in-law Stephanie Testa; and three grandchildren, Nicole, Megan and Jason Testa.
