It is with great sadness that the Larrabee Family announces the death of Gene Larrabee. Gene passed at home after a battle with COPD, November 11th, 2022; surrounded by his wife Rosalyn, his son Aaron, and his beloved dog Susie.
Gene spent a lifetime as CEO of nursing homes and hospitals; always advocating for the rights of his patients. He authored a book, I Gotta Story for Ya!, and wrote books and papers encouraging better care for all patients. He initiated programs for patients’ health and socialization.
Gene enjoyed singing at his player piano to the songs of Dean Martin and Dion.
His love of golf was surpassed by his love of the Chicago Cubs.
He is survived by his loving wife Rosalyn, his 3 sons Brent, Kirk, Aaron, grandson Ian, and brother John. His extended family Max, Joshua, and Matthew, grandchildren Gunnar and Gage. Daughters-in-law Mindy, Nicole, and Kerry. And as he would say, “Let’s not forget Susie.”
Gene touched many lives. He will be missed by all who knew him; a gentle giant with a big heart and big smile.
A service is to be held January 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Saul’s funeral home with a luncheon immediately following at the Heritage at New Riverside clubhouse. To RSVP please email CelebratingGene@gmail.com. Gene’s family requests that donations be made in his honor to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry or The Wounded Warrior Project, in lieu of flowers.
