Gertie Hebendahl, 90 years old, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021 at Hilton Head Hospital with her loving daughter by her side.  She was born on May 30, 1930 in Woodbridge, NJ to the late Frederick and Elsie Dolan.  Gertie moved to Bluffton, SC in July 2015 and lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

Gertie worked for NJ Bell for 19 years.  She was a telephone operator from 1947 to 1958 and transferred to the repair service department from 1958 to 1966.

During her work at NJ Bell, Gertie met her future husband, Bill Hebendahl and they married on October 9, 1965.  They had a daughter; Trish in September 1966 and Gertie became a full-time mom.

Gertie and Bill enjoyed traveling for many years along the East Coast.  Their favorite destinations were Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. 

She loved bowling and did extremely well with many 200+ games.  Gertie also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, volunteering for events at the local Catholic church in NJ, entertaining, cooking, baking, doing word find puzzles, and watching her favorite shows/movies on TV.

Gertie was usually the life of the party, especially with her contagious laugh and funny stories.

She leaves behind her daughter, Trish and son-in-law, Barry.

Viewing will take place on Thursday, May 27 from 3pm-5pm at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton.  A Catholic mass will be held on Friday, May 28 at St. Gregory the Great in Bluffton at 10:30 am. Please note that face masks are required.

A private service and burial will take place in NJ.
