Harry Harley Mills Jr.

April 4, 1932 ~ September 9, 2022 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

On Friday September 9, 2022, Harry Harley Mills, Jr., a beloved father, and grandfather passed away at age ninety. He is survived by son Michael Mills (Donilyn), daughter Kathy Caldwell (James), granddaughter Michaela Bibbins (Tyler and Harley Cooper), and grandson James Lee Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dale Mills.  Born in Ridgeland, SC to Harry and Julia Mills. He graduated from Clemson College A&M in 1955, served four years in the US Army, and went on to serve 33 years and retire as the Director of Social Services.

Throughout his life, his joys included traveling, working in his wood shop, cooking, being with his grandchildren, and anything involving Clemson University. Some of his favorite places to travel included the Blue Ridge Parkway, Ireland, and Scotland. He was one of the biggest Clemson fans you would ever meet. As the saying goes his blood ran orange. You could always find him in his Clemson attire every Solid Orange Friday and of course on Saturdays when his beloved Tigers were battling on the football field. If it was a home game, more than likely you would find him tailgating with his famous dips of pimento cheese and cream cheese and pineapple. Due to him being a Clemson band member himself, he absolutely adored listening to the band play anytime he could.

Harley adored being a grandfather and if you ask his grandchildren, they will tell you he was the best. He was the rock of the family and was there for his family no matter what was needed. He was at every school awards ceremony, school luncheon, and sports events. He was who we all went to for advice or help. He was the great pillar of our family that held us together and he will be truly missed.

Services will be held Thursday September 15, 2022. Visitation will be 10-11 graveside at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the funeral service to follow. Flowers can be sent to Sauls funeral home and in lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to Clemson University Tiger Band.
