Helen Louise Culbertson

December 17, 1924 ~ October 13, 2021 (age 96)

Helen Louise Culbertson, age 96, of Hardeeville, SC, widow of Francis H. Culbertson, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Helen was born December 17, 1924 in Toledo, OH to the late Orlando and Alice Marie Barnes Seifert. She was employed for ten years in food service for the Toledo Ohio Board of Education. She then worked for 25 years with the Medical College of Ohio (MCO) as a food service worker, supervisor and catering manager. (affectionately known as “Helen’s Kitchen” on Campus). She was the dining room hostess for 9 years at the Swan Creek Retirement Center.

Helen was a member of St. Patrick’s Historic Catholic Church, the Medical College Retirement Club, and the Public Employee Retirees, Ohio AFSCME Retiree Chapter and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Helen was an avid “Wheel” watcher and a fan of “The Young and The Restless”.  Her hobbies included bingo; word search; bird watching and purse and shoe shopping.

We celebrate the life of Helen Louise Culbertson. To know her was to be in the presence of a loving and caring “Mother”. If you google the word Mother her picture will be here. Helen is survived by her sons, Michael F. Culbertson (Jacquelyn) of Bluffton, SC, Richard W. Culbertson (Diane) of Burlington, IA, and Daniel L. Culbertson (Carrie) of Hardeeville; and daughters, Alice L. Sheppard (Richard) of Hardeeville, Frances Kay Adams of Hardeeville, and Susan Marie Cunningham (Curtis) of Guyton, GA.; 23 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Her life revolved around her love for her family.  Everything she did was based on the individual needs of her children. She was the first to offer love, support and worry. Her weapons were words of encouragement, a kiss and/or a hug.

Her joy in life could not be expressed by monetary wealth. She measured her wealth by making a large pot of soup and gathering her family to share in her efforts and watch their faces as they consumed her efforts.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton with burial to follow in Lowcountry Memorial Gardens, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton.
