Hope Finley Thompson, 92-years old passed away on May 17, 2021 at her home in Beaufort, SC. She was born on July 27, 1928 to Dr. Richard William Finley and Helen Price Finley. She was reared in Cleveland, Ohio prior to moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
She graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1955 she married Fletcher Sims Dean and together they had two children; their marriage ending in divorce in 1975. In 1976 she re-married Charles Robert Thompson and in marriage gained one adult son, Charles Robert Thompson, Jr.
Hope worked as a French and English high school teacher and later a medical transcriber. Known for her quiet temperament and an observer, Hope was happiest at home with family and her intimate circle of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, John Price Finley. She is survived by her daughter Carol Dean Erb and husband Walt, her son Fletcher Sims Dean, Jr. and grandchildren Brent Alexander Walters, Chad Edward Walters, Jordan Dean Walters, Kate Dean Abbott (Thomas), Amy Dean Hernandez (Eric) and a great-grandchild Carter Dean Abbott.
A private Remembrance Service is being held at the home for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Bible Church, Beaufort, SC or the Alzheimer’s Association.
