Joyce Caroline Genner (“Carol”) of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Weston, MA and Wales, United Kingdom died peacefully at home on October 28th, 2023 after a period of declining health.
Carol was born in the Tredegar valley in Wales on August 7, 1944, where years later she met the love of her life Grant on his 19th birthday and began their 60+ year commitment to one another. She followed him to London while he was at university, working first with the Law Society and then the Abbey National Building Society. They married and traveled the world, living in the UK, North Africa and making their way to America in the 80s, with their daughter, Tarra. When in the USA they settled in Massachusetts and Carol continued to raise Tarra with the warrior spirit that only she could channel.
Carol was an avid walker and singer, singing in the church choir and helping with Tarra’s endeavors. She was a social butterfly, truly loved by all her friends for her amazing gift of gab; within minutes of meeting someone she knew their life story. When Tarra met the man of her dreams, Carol and Grant married her off and retired to Bluffton, SC where they built an amazing home and a great circle of friends with their favorite traveling passenger, Stratford, their Yellow Labrador. Although Carol’s health began to decline in her later years, her fierce spirit carried her through, traveling every few months to a different location around the globe with Grant, her lifelong companion, and Stratford. Her love of DWTS, the Bachelorette and all things on the Hallmark Channel will always be remembered.
She has a left a hole in the hearts of Grant, Tarra and John, family and friends, but they’re all thankful that she’s now safely in God’s care. Her beloved Stratford met her at the Rainbow Bridge, and we find solace in knowing that they’re together. May she rest in peace and may our memories of their fantastic adventures carry us through. Until we meet again…

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so He put His arms around you
and whispered, “Come to Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
