James Temple Knotts, III, of Bluffton, SC passed away on Friday June 5, 2020. He was 80 years old. After battling metastatic liver cancer, James (Jim) died peacefully at home with his beloved family by his side.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who lived a remarkably full life. He was born on August 1, 1939 to James and Grace Knotts in Nutley, NJ. Jim is a graduate of St. Bernard's High School and The College of William and Mary. He began his career as a Physical Education teacher, after which he served in the Army and the Army National Guard. He later transitioned to working as the general sales manager for his uncle's car dealership in Dover, Delaware until he retired. In his free time, Jim enjoyed traveling the world with his adoring wife, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader, relished in stories of his younger days, baked heavenly cheesecakes, and never missed an opportunity to tell a good joke.
Starting at age 13, Jim spent his summers at his family's property in Ocean View, Delaware, which then became his summer residence for the next 67 years. Jim's love for his home on the water grew immensely. He asked that his family scatter his ashes there, where he created a lifetime of happy memories. His family will honor that request in a small private ceremony later this year.
He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Christine Knotts, his daughter Lori Munaco and husband Frank Munaco, his brother Richard Knotts and wife Melody Knotts, and his two grandchildren, Nathan and Chase Ulmer.
