Jan Joseph Bessette

Jan Joseph Bessette, 79 of Bluffton, SC formerly Charlton, NY died August 2, 2022 after a short illness. He graduated Linton High School in 1960 and immediately joined the workforce. After a brief employment with Sealy Mattress Company, he began his 33-year career with The General Electric Company. In September of 1969, he married the love of his life Deena Eve Cohen, they settled in Charlton, NY where they raised their family. Jan was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Clifton Park, NY; Elfun Society of Schenectady, NY, Junior Leadership Mentoring and spent six years in the Army National Guard of New York. Upon his retirement, Jan and Deena traveled the United States for 5 years in their RV before settling on Lake Sinclair in Sparta, GA where they spent 17 years enjoying “Lake Life”. At that time Jan became heavily involved with the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Milledgeville, GA, achieving the honor of 4th Degree. Jan also spent some time as a “First Responder” working with the East Lake Sinclair Fire Department. Jan loved to do handy work, cook, fish, hunt, watch his grandchildren participate in sports and spend time with his family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents George and Anna May Bessette, his son H. Jon Michael Bessette and brother Victor Paul Bessette. He is survived by his wife Deena Bessette, daughter, Heather Moulton, three grandchildren, Sadie, Miranda and Zachary Moulton and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated August 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Milledgeville, GA. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jan’s name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Milledgeville GA or John Paul II Catholic School in Ridgeland, SC.
