Jane Woodward Obituary

Jane Alice Weldon Woodward passed into eternity on August 3, 2022. She was born on February 28, 1932 in South Pasadena, California. She was 90 years old when she lost her long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a beloved mom and grandma who spent countless hours loving and caring for her family. Her life exemplified courage and devotion. She has been missed sorely for the last ten years that Alzheimer’s ravaged her brain, but at last her body and soul are finally at rest with her Savior.

Jane was the only child of Bernice and William (Bill) Weldon, longtime residents of South Pasadena. Her grandfather, W.R.H. Weldon, was the founder of the Weldon Fair Play Award given annually to six South Pasadena High School seniors who exhibit exceptional leadership, service, academics and integrity. Jane received the coveted award in 1950. She earned her BA from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA and her MA from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. For 35 years she was a school guidance counselor working with numerous students and families in North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington and California.  Toward the end of her career, she had the good fortune to return to her beloved Alma mater SPHS to serve as a guidance counselor.

Jane A Weldon married William Noon Woodward in July 1954. They were married for 67 years when he passed away in November 2021. They lived in numerous places including: Cape Canaveral, Puerto Rico, Kwajalein and France. In retirement they settled on Fripp Island, South Carolina, where they resided for 20 years close to their three children, three in laws, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jane thoroughly loved nature and animals and served on the Turtle Watch Team on Fripp Island. She recycled religiously and was an expert knitter and crocheter. She volunteered at Lady’s Island Elementary and served on the Beaufort Boating Squadron with Bill. After she was 60 years old she earned her pilots license and flew cross country. She leaves a deep legacy.
