Joan M. Zecchitella, of Sun City, formally of Ridge and Jericho, New York, passed away on June 11th 2020 at Savannah Memorial Hospital at 11:57pm. Born Joan Fries on July 22, 1932 in Floral Park, New York, she was sixth of 7 children, and enjoyed a happy childhood. Joan graduated Sewanhaka High School (Floral Park) in 1950 and shortly after began work as a clerk at the Home Insurance Company in Manhattan.
She met the love of her life through letters exchanged after her older brother, who was in the United States Army Air Corp, shared her photo with his fellow airman, Anthony Zecchitella.
They married November 24, 1951 and were married for 64 years. He predisposed her on July 24, 2017.
She is survived by their children Patricia (Suwan) Numprasong of Johns Creek, Georgia, Anthony Zecchitella of Bluffton, SC and Carolann (Bill) Zebrowski of Sugar Hill, Georgia. Also her grandchildren Thomas (Stephanie) Numprasong, Sujari (Taylor}
Duerr, Hunter Zebrowski and Evan Zebrowski, and great grandchildren Sebastian, Finn and Henry as well as her surviving brother Donald (Lucille} Fries of Long Island, New York.
Joan was known for being a loving wife and mother, as well as a devoted, fun-loving grandmother. She was a cherished Aunt to her many nieces and nephews and known as a sweet friend to all, who will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers (foundation supporting military and first responders) or Boys Town, Nebraska.
Viewing to be held Thursday, June 18th from 5-7pm, at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton. Funeral service to be held June 19th at 11 am at the funeral home. Masks are required to attend either the viewing or the funeral.
