John Armstrong, III Obituary

John Sherman Armstrong III, 72 of Hardeeville, SC passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 after a long battle with Cortico Basal Degeneration, a very rare neurologic disease.

John was born on November 3, 1947 to Hazel and John Sherman Armstrong, Jr. in Queens, New York.

After graduating from Syosset High School in 1965, he went on to study sociology at St. John’s University and graduated in 1969.  He returned to college in 1972 to study accounting at Baruch College.

After graduating from Baruch he landed a position with Haskins and Sells, kicking off a career in the public accounting field.  John became a CPA in 1975.  He worked at Citibank for 31 years retiring in 2007.

In 1966 John met Sandy Cirillo and they wed in 1969, going on to have two children, Brendan John and Alison Leigh.

After retiring in 2007, he spent his time between Northport, New York and Hardeeville, South Carolina.  He enjoyed landscaping, playing golf, socializing, vacationing, and enjoying his grandchildren. 

John was predeceased by his parents, Hazel and Jack.  He is survived by his wife, Sandy, his children and their spouses, Brendan and Setona Armstrong and Alison and Michael Maysilles.

John is also survived by Liam and Chloe Armstrong and Ryleigh and Mason Maysilles, his grandchildren.
