John Munroe Hamilton, 81, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, at home in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He was born on June 24th, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, the eldest son of Munroe and Mary Hamilton. He grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts and attended Tilton School before matriculating at Suffolk University. After graduation, John started and successfully ran two businesses, including a medical leasing company, as well as a real estate development company. He was a Director at Leader Federal Savings and Loan in Lexington and a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. He served as an advisor to the Dean of the Suffolk University Business School for several years.
John was an avid golfer and a member of the Weston Golf Club, Eastward Ho, and Indian Creek. He also enjoyed sailing and participated in the Marblehead to Halifax Race for several years. He was recruited by Gifford Simonds to captain and maintain his 60-foot schooner in Marblehead, where he met and then married Lynn Simonds. He built a home with Lynn and raised two sons in Weston, Massachusetts. He retired on Hilton Head Island, enjoying being by the ocean, walking along the beaches, reading history books, and spending time with his family and friends. John’s charismatic charm captivated admiration and love from all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by Lynn and his youngest son, Christopher. He leaves behind his eldest son, Stephen Hamilton, and wife, Michelle; his granddaughter, Hailey; his brother, David, and wife Patricia; his nephew Ben and wife Kayla, their children Carter, Kenzie, and Lyla; his niece Jennifer and husband David, their children Grant and Owen; his brother William, his children Brett and wife Shuang, Scott, Katherine and Christine; his niece Hollis and husband David, their children Davis and Matthew; his sister-in-law Ann and husband Robert.
Private celebrations of his life will occur at a later date.
