John J. O'Brien, 86, of Bluffton, passed away on June 22, 2022 at Hilton Head Hospital following a short illness.
John was born in Chicago, IL, on December 8, 1935 to the late William J. O'Brien and Belinda Shanley O'Brien, the youngest of four sons. He met his wife Roberta (Bobbi) while employed at Bennett Brothers of Chicago. They were married on May 16, 1959 and celebrated 63 years of marriage until his passing. They had three children: Kathleen A., Kerry A., and Patrick J.
He was an Army veteran, serving from 1958-1960, and enjoyed a career in sales. Upon retiring from Sherwood Medical he and Roberta promptly relocated to Bluffton, SC from Woodstock, IL. A lifelong devoted Catholic, he was an active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and usher, was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) as well as the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
He is survived by his beloved wife Roberta, his daughter Kerry Fegley (David) and son Patrick O'Brien (Michael Poland). He was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen and brothers Bernard W., Michael F. and James S. O'Brien.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew Chapel, Pinckney Colony Road, Bluffton, SC at a later date.
