Joseph Ramach Obituary

Joseph John Ramach EdD passed away December 11th at Hilton Head Hospital at the age of 84.  Joe was born in Johnstown, PA on January 27, 1936. He was the youngest of a large blended family including sisters Anna, Julie and Mary, and brothers Andy, George, Mike, Charlie, and John.

After high school graduation, Joe joined the Air Force and took advantage of the G.I. Bill to further his education.

He spent his entire career in education working with students from age 8 to over 70 years old.  He began as a classroom Business Education teacher in Baltimore County, Maryland.  He moved on to become the supervisor in Business Education for the Maryland State Department of Education and finally as the Vocational Industrial Education Supervisor of Cecil County Public Schools in Elkton, Maryland. When he retired, Joe developed and taught summer fishing classes for Discovering College students ages 8 to 12.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and being out on the water.  He enjoyed sharing his fishing skills with others, especially with his sons and children. He was a very talented wood carver and spent many years carving and painting decoys.  He also loved movies especially old classics and cowboy films.

Joe is survived by his wife Kaye, his children Jim (Mary), Jerry (Kathy) and Rod.  There are five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his stepsons David (Brooke) and Brian (Amy) and four stepgrandchildren.

Joe was a member of Lowcountry Presbyterian Church in Bluffton.  As a young child he was baptized in the Russian Orthodox faith.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring at a date to be determined.  Donations may be made to The Chesapeake Bay Foundation @ cbf.org or by mail at:
