Josephine (Jo) Bruno

Jo Bruno of Hilton Head passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 18,2021, the day after celebrating her 84^th birthday with her loved ones.  Jo was born in Stamford Connecticut on October 17, 1937 and was the daughter of the late John and Rose Margotta. Jo married the love of her life, Bill Bruno and together they worked and raised their family in Stamford until their retirement in 1985.

Jo attended St Raphael’s school of nursing in Yale New Haven; upon her graduation she went to work at Stamford Hospital. Jo worked at Stamford hospital for nearly 30 years, the better part of her tenure was spent as head nurse of the Outpatient Clinic.  In 1985 both Jo and Bill retired and decided to move to Hilton Head, where Bill opened a liquor store in Port Royal Plaza and Jo went on to use her nursing background in various capacities and places on Hilton Head.  Jo loved helping people and was extremely outgoing. Jo loved to spend time and play with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Bill Bruno.  Jo is survived by her three sons Greg Bruno of Waleska, GA, Gary and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Bruno of Bluffton SC, John Bruno of Hilton Head, S.C. and former daughter-in-law Kathy of Hilton Head and unofficial daughter Beth Nizolek of Bluffton SC and her family.  Her sister-in-law Lucille and brother in-law Tony Cipolla of Boynton Beach FL., sister-in-law Barbara Margotta of Hilton Head and in- law Betty Stabile of Hilton Head, S.C, also survive her.  She was also survived by her greatest joy, grandchildren Steve, Jenna, Lindsay, Nikki, JT, Nick and their spouses Jordan, Patrick and Rafael along with her Great grandchildren with whom she spent hours playing with Faith, Liam, Lyla and Elijah. Gram as she was lovingly called woke up happy everyday and greeted everyone with a smile. She will be so missed but we know that she will be with her Willie (Bill) again, dancing in heaven.

The family is having a private celebration of her life. The family has asked that if anyone who wishes to remember Jo, in lieu of flowers a memorial donation in the name of Jo Bruno be sent to Volunteers in Medicine HHI PO Box 23858 Hilton Head SC 29925.
