Joshua Gariepy Obituary

On November 3, 2018, Joshua Blynn Gariepy joined his Lord in heaven from his home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Josh was born in Nashua, New Hampshire to Jennifer Demers Tompkins and David Gariepy on May 29, 2003.  He was preceded in death by his father and his paternal grandparents, Marianne Estes and Leon Gariepy.  He is survived by his loving family: his mother; his brothers, Jared Dube and Justin Gariepy; his step-father, Jason Tompkins; his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Marlene Demers; his uncle, Ed Demers; his cousin, Eddie Demers; his aunt, Karen Gariepy-Gallagher; his cousin, Gigi Gallagher; and his step-grandfather, Blynn Estes.

He had some struggles starting out in school, but with help and hard work he overcame them, and had become a good student in Hilton Head as a Stingray, where he also played football, and as a Seahawk, where he was a beloved freshman.  Josh was very proud of his scholastic achievements, as was his family.  Josh was also a member of the Cornerstone Church in Bluffton, where he participated in Teen Bible Group and served in the Cornerstone Student Ministry.  He accepted Jesus as his savior, and was baptized in September.

Josh’s greatest loves, outside of family and friends, were comics, collectables, and anything 80’s.  He had accumulated quite a collection of comic books, some of them signed by the writers or the actors who played the characters on T.V.  He loved the shows “Survivor” and “The Walking Dead,” and he attended three WalkerStalker conventions in Atlanta with his step-father.  He also collected Pop! figures and had amassed a vast collection of LEGOs.  His interest in 80’s culture and music was remarkable – from Spielberg movies, to “Back to the Future” memorabilia, to his 80’s Pandora music stations – he was truly fascinated.  He also very much enjoyed his Pokémon GO adventures with his mother and friends.

Josh was sincerely charming, funny, playful, and had a smile and laugh that lit up a room.  He was a kind, caring, and loving soul who cherished his friends and family.  He delivered great joy to those who knew and loved him.  He will be missed beyond words.  In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to be sent in his memory to the Yellow Ribbon program at: http://www.yellowribbon.org/JoshuaBGariepy.
