Joyce Barrenbrugge Crosby passed away at home during the early morning hours on May 28th at the age of 89, surrounded by loved ones.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband Richard Blake Crosby, Jr., “Bubba” of 68 years. They were married in Kingsland, Georgia on January 1, 1954.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her son, Richard Blake Crosby, III, “Ricky” (Laurie) and three daughters, Karen Crosby Hettinger (Steve), Janice Crosby Austin and Cheryl Crosby Phillips (Dave); 9 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce is predeceased by her parents James H. and Doris Barrenbrugge, Sr., her brother, James H. Barrenbrugge, Jr. “Jimmy” (Joan) and Great Grandson Eli Grey Endsley.
Joyce was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 27, 1932. She went to business school, then worked at Travelers Insurance in Jacksonville. Joyce had a love of animals at a young age. From her Billy goat, rabbits and family dogs, to riding the neighbors horses up the street. She moved to SC after marrying Bubba and got her first horse, Noble. She enjoyed the outdoors and worked hard running the farm with Bubba. Bringing her parents to the area and caring for them, she spent her life being a care giver for everyone around her. She always enjoyed hosting family gatherings and cooking delicious meals for her family. Many of these meals and celebrations were extended to non-family guest too. If you left Joyce’s house hungry, it was your own fault.
The celebration of life will be held at Sauls Funeral Home located at 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, SC 29910 on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Visitation beginning at 12:30 pm, followed by a service to begin at 1:00 pm in the chapel. Graveside service will be held immediately after, at Bluffton Cemetery for those who would like to attend.
